Turkish Protesters to Be Detained Amid Intensifying Tensions

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has demanded the detention of over 200 protesters arrested during demonstrations supporting Ekrem İmamoğlu. Turkish media outlets reported this development.

According to the announcement, "206 protesters who were taken into custody in Istanbul have been transferred to the courtroom of the International Criminal Court with requests for detention." Turkey's Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on March 24 that more than 1,130 citizens have been detained during the protests across the country. Police have seized axes, hammers, knives, and sulfuric acid.

On March 25, the minister confirmed the detention of over 40 individuals in Istanbul. It is worth noting that protests have been ongoing in Istanbul and other Turkish cities since March 20 in support of the arrested Istanbul Mayor and opposition Republican People's Party member Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was detained on corruption charges.
