Fires in South Korea: Casualties Reported
At least four people have died as a result of raging forest fires in South Korea, with more than 1,500 individuals evacuated. The fires began on March 21 in the Gyeongsangnam-do province and have rapidly spread.
According to the South Korean Forest Service, the fire has already destroyed over 500 hectares of forest. Around 1,600 firefighters, 35 helicopters, and dozens of vehicles are involved in the firefighting operations; however, due to mountainous terrain and strong winds, only 35 percent of the fire has been contained.
