New Head Coach of the National Team Discusses Upcoming Match
On March 20, the UEFA Nations League 2024/2025 play-off match between Armenia and Georgia will take place at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium in Yerevan. The head coach of the Armenian national team, John van 't Schip, spoke about the upcoming match, according to armsport.am.
“I met the Georgian national team when I was coaching Greece. The team has made significant progress in recent years, participating in Euro 2024. They are quite a challenging opponent for us. This is a good test to see how a small country can achieve such success. In reality, there is very little time. However, during this period, I have seen a great commitment and positive energy from the players.
We have been here for three to four weeks and have watched quite a few Premier League matches. I can say we have opened the doors of the national team to everyone who deserves to play for it. We will continue to keep an eye on these players. We will try to get to know Armenian football better. During the training camps, we need to focus on the sessions themselves. I have enjoyed watching some of the Premier League matches.
Our overall, main goal is to prepare well for the World Cup qualifying round, while the short-term goal is to perform well in tomorrow's match. Unfortunately, we will not have Spertsyan and Celarayan available for tomorrow’s match, but this is a good opportunity for other players to showcase themselves.
Regarding the limitation of legionnaires in the Premier League, I think it's still too early to make assumptions. I can say that I support the idea of having as many Armenian footballers getting playing time and participating in the Premier League matches as possible,” said the head coach of the Armenian national team.
