Macron's Call to Reject US Vassalage
French President Emmanuel Macron, during his visit to Portugal, urged Europeans to abandon the vassal-like behaviors towards the United States. According to AFP, he stated, "I see many people in Europe say that it is necessary to be polite with the USA. Yes, we must be polite, but we must also preserve what we have; we should not submit. I am against happy vassalage."
Macron emphasized that Europe needs to transform to regain the strength it seems to have lost. He referred to former US President Trump’s imposition of a 25% tariff on all incoming steel and aluminum supplies to the US from various countries, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, the UK, Canada, EU nations, Mexico, South Korea, and Japan.
