The U.S. Has a New Secretary of State
The U.S. Senate has confirmed Senator Marco Rubio as Secretary of State with a unanimous vote of 99 to 0.
Rubio, a senator from Florida, was born in Miami to Cuban immigrant parents and has represented Florida in the U.S. Senate since 2011. He previously served as the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives.
He is known for his strong views on foreign policy, emphasizing the need to increase competition with China, support for Israel, and opposition to Iran's nuclear program. He holds a hardline stance towards both China and Russia and is currently under personal sanctions from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
