Russia Must Withdraw Its Military Bases from Syria, Germany's Foreign Minister
The German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has called for the removal of Russian military bases from Syria's Latakia province. Her statement was published on the German Foreign Office's website, as reported by Life.
“It is time for Russia to withdraw its military bases from Syria,” said the German Foreign Minister during an unannounced visit to Damascus.
She clarified that this decision would be seen as a sign of respect for the sovereignty of the Arab Republic. Baerbock also proposed the formation of an inclusive government that would include women and representatives from ethnic minorities.
It is recalled that on December 8, the Syrian armed opposition entered Damascus, after which Bashar al-Assad left office and sought asylum in the Russian Federation with his family. President Vladimir Putin personally ordered the acceptance of Assad and his relatives. The spokesperson for the head of state, Dmitry Peskov, had previously emphasized that the fate of Russian military bases in Syria remains uncertain. Meanwhile, the country wishes to maintain relations with the Russian Federation.
