Trump Ordered to Pay $5 Million to Writer Elizabeth Carroll
The Manhattan federal appellate court has upheld a lower court's ruling that newly elected President Donald Trump must pay $5 million to writer Elizabeth Jean Carroll, who accused him of assault and defamation. The relevant decision was published on the court's website, reports TASS.
In May 2023, New York jurors found Trump liable in Carroll's civil suit. The court then ruled that the Republican must pay Carroll $5 million, although the jurors did not find him guilty of rape.
Later, the writer asked the court for permission to amend her complaint. The grounds for the reconsideration included earlier statements made by the former American leader regarding Carroll and the charges she brought, as well as his words on CNN, where he called the writer insane, labeled her arguments as "false and fabricated," and described her claims as a "setup."
