Slovakia Threatens Ukraine with Electricity Disconnections
Slovakia will assess the gas situation after January 1 and will discuss the possibility of taking retaliatory measures against Ukraine if it halts transit. "If this is unavoidable, we will stop supplying electricity, which Ukraine urgently needs in case of network disruptions, or we will agree on another method," said Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico.
It is worth noting that Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal has announced that Kyiv will halt the transit of Russian gas at 7 a.m. on January 1, 2025, as a five-year contract will expire. Shmyhal also stated that restoring transit could be possible at the request of the European Commission, provided it is not Russian gas.
