Orbán Sees 2 Scenarios for Ending the Russo-Ukrainian Conflict
The conflict in Ukraine could end by 2025, but through two different avenues. This assumption was made by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. "The hostilities will end in 2025, either through a peace agreement or through the destruction of one of the parties involved in the conflict," the politician stated in an interview with the Magyar Nemzet publication.
Moscow Ready for Negotiations
The Kremlin has repeatedly expressed its readiness to negotiate with the Ukrainian side. Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that Moscow is prepared for talks with Ukraine. However, according to him, the other side must also be ready for this.
The Russian president stated that Russia is willing to negotiate with Ukraine without preconditions, but based on the agreements reached in Istanbul. Earlier, Putin emphasized that negotiations aimed at resolving the Ukrainian conflict are possible if Kyiv withdraws its troops from Russia’s newly acquired territories. In addition, Ukraine must renounce its intention to join NATO and carry out demilitarization and denazification. The country must also declare a neutral non-aligned and non-nuclear status, while sanctions against Russia should be lifted.
Trump's Position
Newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump has also frequently spoken about the need to end the conflict and assured that he could achieve this in just one day. Last week, Trump stated that he is actively working towards resolving the Ukrainian conflict, noting that there is already "some small progress". He also mentioned that during a recent meeting in Paris, Vladimir Zelensky "made it clear that he wants peace," thus, "we must be prepared for a deal." Furthermore, Trump believes that a resolution to the conflict should also be sealed by Putin.
