Matthew Miller Discusses Ruben Vardanyan and Other Armenian Detainees
U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller, in a press briefing, addressed the fate of Armenian soldiers and political figures detained in Azerbaijani prisons in response to a question from Armenian journalist Haikaram Nahapetyan. He stated, “When it comes to the status of detainees held in Azerbaijan, without discussing any specific cases, we consistently urge Azerbaijan to respect the rights and fundamental freedoms of individuals within its country, including those of prisoners. You have seen that we take action when we see that Azerbaijan does not respect the fundamental human rights of all individuals within its territory, and we will continue to pursue that policy,” he announced.
The official representative of the U.S. State Department also answered a question regarding whether U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed the relations between Armenia and Turkey during his recent visit to Turkey, as well as the ongoing processes between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Miller mentioned that the U.S. regularly engages in discussions with officials from both countries regarding the relations between Armenia and Turkey.
