Militants Block Key Road, Hundreds of Casualties: Situation in Syria
Jihadist militants have blocked the road between Damascus and Aleppo during an attack, resulting in approximately 200 fatalities according to observers. This was reported by Agence France-Presse.
On Wednesday, the jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and its allied factions launched an assault on government-controlled areas in the northern province of Aleppo, leading to one of the most brutal battles in recent years, as stated by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The death toll from ongoing clashes has reached 182.
Syria has been embroiled in a civil war for over a decade, although the intensity of the conflict has decreased in recent years. The clashes are taking place in areas bordering Idlib and Aleppo provinces, some 6 miles (10 km) southwest of the outskirts of Aleppo city.
Mohammed Bashir, who leads the so-called 'Salvation Government,' announced at a press conference, 'The aim of this operation is to push back the sources of fire from the criminal enemy at the front line.'
According to Anadolu, the opposition has taken control of 56 villages and other facilities, occupying a territory of 400 square kilometers in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib. They have also seized heavy weapons, vehicles, and warehouses.
