If it happened to another people, the response of society would be different: UN
The international community is not paying adequate attention to the "horrors and nightmares" occurring in the Gaza Strip, effectively ignoring the casualties among the civilian population. This assessment was made by Sam Rose, a representative of the UN agency for Palestine refugees and works in the Middle East.
"All attention is directed at the Gaza Strip, yet that changes nothing. There was a feeling in the past that at some point the situation in the region would reach a point where the world would say 'enough'," Rose told the European publication Politico.
According to the UN representative, the "terrifying stories" in the media and the level of escalation of the conflict in Gaza are insufficient for the world to take action. "The feeling of double standards persists throughout the conflict. If this were happening to another people, rather than the Palestinians, the response of society would be entirely different," Rose believes.
The expert also reported that after Israeli airstrikes on September 11 in the central part of Gaza, which resulted in the deaths of six UN Security Council staff members, organization employees are hesitant to wear UN-branded vests because they fear it will make them targets. "Perhaps everything is just too much—these nightmares. I am simply amazed that nobody can do anything," the expert emphasized, commenting on the severe humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
