Attention Must Not Be Diverted from Zaporozhye and Kursk Nuclear Power Plants
The attack on the cooling tower of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant and the alarming situation at the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant clearly demonstrate that attention to nuclear safety at these sites should not be weakened. This was stated by Rafael Grossi, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), to reporters.
“We are in difficult times now, and the events mentioned by Mr. Likhachov (the head of Rosatom), particularly the fire at the cooling tower of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant and the situation at the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, make it clear that we must not relax our focus on nuclear safety at these facilities,” he said.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced that Ukrainian armed forces attempted to strike the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, noted that Russia is in close contact with the IAEA secretariat regarding provocations from the Kiev regime towards both the Zaporozhye and Kursk Nuclear Power Plants.
