Trump to Accept Elon Musk's Proposal to Create a Government Efficiency Committee: WSJ
Former U.S. President and presidential candidate Donald Trump is set to outline a series of economic proposals during his speech on Thursday, including the creation of a government efficiency committee as proposed by Elon Musk. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.
The committee will conduct a "full financial and operational audit of the federal government" and make recommendations for radical reforms, the Republican former president is expected to say at the New York Economic Club. According to excerpts from the (upcoming) speech reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, the goal is to reveal ways to eliminate fraud and improper payments.
It is noted that Trump's speech will focus on the economy, which voters cite as the number one issue in the elections. The speech is scheduled just days before a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris in Philadelphia.
According to the latest survey by the Wall Street Journal, Trump surpasses Harris by 8 points on the economic agenda (when voters are asked who would handle the economy better) and is ahead by 5 points in combating inflation. However, Trump had a larger advantage when President Biden entered the race.
Trump is also expected to reiterate his call for declaring a national emergency to remove "all bureaucratic barriers to obtaining permits for new drilling, new pipelines, oil refineries, and new power plants and reactors." Trump claims that his plans would cut energy prices in half within the first year of taking office, although some experts are skeptical about this claim.
