U.S. Has Already Taken Certain Measures in This Process: Miller

The government of Georgia continues to move in a very alarming direction, distancing the country from the Euro-Atlantic trajectory. This was stated by Matthew Miller, a representative of the U.S. State Department.

According to him, the process of comprehensive review of U.S.-Georgia relations is ongoing. “The Georgian government continues to move in a very alarming direction, distancing the country from the Euro-Atlantic trajectory, which, as we know, is greatly desired by the Georgian people. We are concerned about the implementation of that legislation regarding organizations that are registered voluntarily, including critically important civil society organizations and independent media,” Miller said.

He added, “A comprehensive review process between the two countries is underway, and in that context, the U.S. has already taken certain measures. We have imposed visa restrictions on dozens of people and their family members, including members of the 'Georgian Dream' party, parliamentarians, law enforcement officials, and other private individuals. We have halted $95 million in aid, which was directly benefiting the Georgian government. Now the second phase of the review process has begun, but I am not going to discuss the next steps,” Miller stated.
