Yerevan Municipality to Increase Fines for Littering, Says Avinyan
The Yerevan Municipality will strengthen its oversight to keep the city in proper condition, including tightening the fine process for littering in unauthorized areas. This was announced to reporters by Mayor Tigran Avinyan.
Addressing the issue of fines, he noted that they have been and are being applied; however, at this moment, the resources of the Yerevan Municipality are not sufficient to fully implement the penalty measures. “But we are working in this direction and will definitely achieve better results. It’s not pleasant to talk about this topic, but the Yerevan Municipality will start imposing more fines for littering,” said Avinyan.
He emphasized the importance of individually recording such irresponsible behavior, stating that fines should serve a preventive purpose. “It is not mandatory for all polluters to be fined. A sufficient number of preventive fines will be enough for people to know that they have a problem here,” believes the Mayor of Yerevan.
