Migrants with Less Than 10 Years of Citizenship May Be Banned from Buying Weapons in Russia
Russian State Duma members from the "Just Russia - For Truth" faction, led by party leader Sergey Mironov, are set to present a bill proposing a ban on the acquisition of hunting and other firearms for migrants with less than 10 years of citizenship in Russia. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
According to the explanatory note of the federal bill, it is suggested to impose a ban on the acquisition of limited-fire civilian firearms, hunting weapons, and smoothbore firearms for individuals with less than 10 years of Russian citizenship.
Additionally, changes are proposed to the "Law on Weapons," which state that foreigners will only be able to acquire small gas canisters, pistols, and electric shock devices five years after obtaining Russian citizenship.
“Every day we learn from reports of criminal offenses about the next serious incident involving migrants—murders, disputes, robberies, and violence. The situation is complicated, and everything could get worse if the state does not tighten the regulations regarding the sale of weapons to migrants,” Mironov declared.
He also noted that citizens from several CIS countries are eager to obtain Russian citizenship as quickly as possible, often without the necessary knowledge of the Russian language. According to him, immediately after acquiring a Russian passport, they apply for permission to purchase weapons.
