From Now On, Military Service Deferral Will Be Granted Once for the Entire Duration of Studies
The executive approved today, without discussion, amendments to the ‘Law on Military Service and the Status of Servicemen’ during its session. The government clarifies that the necessity to amend the law is due to the improvement of the processes for granting military service deferral for students enrolled in general education as well as initial or secondary vocational education programs without interruption, either in Armenia or foreign countries.
The new provisions stipulate that citizens studying in vocational educational programs based on general or basic education, both in Armenia and abroad, will be granted military service deferral once for the entire duration of their studies.
The bill clarifies the concept of “without interruption,” ensuring that the deferral process is clear to all interested parties. Currently, under existing regulations, military service deferral for those studying in these programs is granted up to the age of 19 by the Ministry of Defense, and after the age of 19, it is subject to decisions made by the government of Armenia.
