Whatever Steps Zelenskyh Takes, Our President Is at Risk of 'Political Suicide': Klitschko
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyh may have to hold a nationwide referendum on peace negotiations with Russia, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said in an interview with Italian Corriere della Sera.
According to him, the coming months will be very difficult for the Ukrainian president, especially due to uncertainty regarding further U.S. support for Ukraine in the event of a victory by Republican Donald Trump.
“How can we explain to people that we have to give up the pieces of our territory for which thousands of our heroes have sacrificed their lives? Whatever steps Zelenskyh takes, our president is at risk of 'political suicide.' If we were forced to fight for another two years, it would be a nightmare,” Klitschko stated.
“Zelenskyh will probably have to hold a referendum; I don’t think he can reach such important and painful agreements on his own, without popular legitimacy,” the Kyiv mayor added.
