Fake Banknotes Not Provided by the Bank, But Purchased by the Testifying Woman's Husband: Details
In Sisian, a 31-year-old woman testified today regarding the incident involving the reception of souvenir banknotes from Unibank, stating that the bank did not provide fake banknotes, but the confusion was at home.
Investigator Andranik Khachatryan told Oragir.News that the souvenir banknotes were purchased by the family’s breadwinner to give to the children for playing, but they became mixed up with real money, leading to this issue. “The husband bought souvenir banknotes for the kids to play with; he gave part of them and put the rest in the same place where they kept their money, resulting in a mix-up. The husband is a truck driver; he was transporting goods from Iran to Yerevan and was not at home at the time. The wife thought that the bank had given her fake banknotes and made such a statement. Today she came and testified that it was a mix-up with the money at home,” he said.
It is worth noting that the 31-year-old woman received money from the bank on May 13 and filed a report with the police 44 days later, claiming that a pack of banknotes with a nominal value of 1 million drams included 9 souvenir banknotes of 10,000 drams each.
Unibank denied the information, stating that footage of the woman receiving the 1 million drams is preserved. Essentially, the citizen has tarnished the business reputation of “Unibank” and the honor and dignity of the employees of the Sisian branch.
“We expect that the RA police will soon provide an explanation presenting the true circumstances of the incident,” the bank stated.
