Discussion of Migrants in Russia
Approximately 15 million foreigners come to Russia each year, primarily labor migrants, and their demographic composition has sharply changed. This was stated by Dmitry Vagurin, a prosecutor in the Federal Security, Interethnic Relations, Extremism and Terrorism Prevention Oversight Division of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.
“In recent years, the composition of those arriving in Russia has changed significantly, with most migrants coming from Central Asian republics,” Vagurin said, adding that many of them do not speak Russian and that a significant number are unwilling to comply with the laws in force in the Russian Federation.
Vagurin noted, “Many of those coming to Russia in recent years do not wish to adhere to local laws and norms of behavior and show disrespect towards the local population.” The representative of the Prosecutor General's Office reminded that the rules for entry and residence in the Russian Federation have been simplified for arrivals from neighboring countries, and in this context emphasized, “Hospitality to the detriment of our country.”
