More Than 85 Tons of Products Containing Toxins Seized in Moscow
More than 85 tons of food products possibly containing botulinum toxins have been seized in Moscow, with over half of them destroyed. This was reported on the website of the capital's department of Rospotrebnadzor.
"The aforementioned food products and raw materials used for their preparation have been halted, seized, and not permitted for sale, totaling over 85 tons in weight, of which more than 44 tons have been destroyed using thermal processes at a waste disposal plant under the supervision of the department’s staff," the statement said.
The agency clarified that its specialists are continuing an epidemiological investigation following an outbreak of botulism among residents of Moscow, who had consumed the vacuum-packaged Lobio Salad containing beans and tuna fish, as well as Lobio with apples.
Previously, it was reported that on June 21, the city's regulatory authorities halted the operations of the workshop where the salads were prepared, which preliminary data indicated was the cause of the botulism outbreak. Earlier, Russian citizens had identified symptoms that could differentiate botulism from other types of poisoning.
