Biden Apologizes to Zelensky and Announces New $225 Million Aid Package

U.S. President Joe Biden has apologized to his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky over the delay in the latest aid package, while also announcing a new $225 million aid package. This occurred during a meeting in France, part of the events marking the 80th anniversary of the Allied forces' landing in Normandy, Reuters reports.

“You have not bowed down, you have not surrendered, you continue to fight… in the most incredible way. We will not leave you,” Biden emphasized.

He explained that the delay of the recent tranche was due to the actions of some “very conservative” American lawmakers. “It is very important that you stay with us. This bipartisan support in Congress is critical for the United States, for all Americans, to remain united with Ukraine, just as it was during World War II when the United States helped save lives and Europe,” Zelensky stated.

This marks the first meeting between the two leaders since Zelensky’s visit to Washington in 2023. The next meeting between Zelensky and Biden will take place in Italy at the G7 summit, according to Reuters.
