US Responds to Mikhail Galuzin's Statement
The United States is not involved in the protests occurring in Georgia against the backdrop of the adoption of the "Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence," and all counterclaims are misinformation. This statement was made by Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for the State Department, during a press briefing.
"I believe that the answer I just gave regarding the misinformation you are seeing from the Kremlin may well be equally applicable here," said Miller, commenting on the statement by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin that the West might orchestrate a new "Maidan" in Georgia by October.
According to the State Department representative, the protests in Georgia are a "reflection of the will of the Georgian people," and the US has "nothing to do with it." "It is related to the expression of the views of the Georgian people," Miller reiterated.
It is noteworthy that the Georgian Parliament has passed the "Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence," which has raised serious statements from the European Union and the United States. Civil society organizations have repeatedly stated that they will not register in the registry if the law is adopted, as they do not consider it fair to be labeled as organizations serving the interests of foreign powers. The ruling party claims that this definition is correct if they receive funding from abroad and that they only require financial transparency.
