Mirzoyan on Relations with Turkey

Armenia and Turkey have managed to reach mutual understanding on a number of issues. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, during a joint meeting of the Standing Committees of the National Assembly.

According to him, Yerevan hopes that these agreements will be implemented on the ground. “We have broad mutual understanding on several issues regarding the normalization of relations with Turkey. It is time to see how the agreements are being implemented in practice,” he said.

Yerevan and Ankara announced in December 2021 that they were ready to take concrete steps to normalize relations, and both parties appointed special representatives: Ankara appointed former ambassador to Washington, Serdar Kilic, while Armenia appointed Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Ruben Rubinyan.

In July 2022, an agreement was reached in Vienna to ensure the possibility for citizens of third countries visiting Armenia and Turkey to cross the Armenian-Turkish land border, as well as to initiate direct air cargo transportation and the necessary processes for that. This issue remains unresolved to this day.

In January 2023, Ankara informed Yerevan about the lifting of the ban on direct air cargo transportation.
