Armenia's Actions Could Make the Creation of a Unified Defense System Impossible – Galuzin
Armenia's unconsidered actions could make it impossible to return to joint efforts aimed at creating a unified defense space with Russia and other member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). This was stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin in an interview with TASS.
According to him, Yerevan seems to have wanted to take advantage of the situation when the West is showing great interest in strengthening cooperation, including in the field of security.
“However, unconsidered decisions that would provide Western countries with full access to national databases, to sensitive information regarding national security, not only ultimately threaten the sovereignty of the state but could also objectively make it impossible to return to joint work on constructing a unified defense space with Russia and other CSTO allies,” said the diplomat.
Galuzin expressed confidence that Armenia's full participation in the activities of the Collective Security Treaty Organization is primarily in the interests of the Armenian people and serves to maintain peace and stability in the South Caucasus region.
“Membership in the organization, as well as close military ties with our country, have become a key factor in the development of independent Armenia over the past decades. Regardless of what promises the West offers Yerevan, today there are no effective alternatives to CSTO as a mechanism for ensuring Armenia's security,” said the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister.
