Human Rights Defender Meets with Residents of Border Village Nerkhin Hand
The Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan met with the administrative head of the border village Nerkhin Hand, Khachatur Baghdasaryan, and local residents during her working visit to Syunik on May 24. Several urgent issues regarding people's rights were discussed.
In particular, concerns were raised about ensuring residents’ employment, the newly constructed water supply line, and access to the cemetery and church, among other matters. The citizens expressed to the Defender their worries that the presence of Azerbaijani military personnel continues to violate their rights to live in safe conditions and to own property, as well as obstructing their opportunities to engage in livestock farming, which serves as the main source of income for families, and to use pasture lands.
Anahit Manasyan assured residents that the protection of the rights of residents in border areas is one of the primary directions of her work. Within her mandate, she will make every effort to urgently address the raised issues. The activities carried out by the Defender and her staff in border villages are ongoing.
