Baku Cannot Be Trusted: Jim Costa
The United States is considering Armenia's requests to determine what steps Washington can take to strengthen its cooperation with Yerevan and the assistance provided to Armenia. This announcement was made by the U.S. Secretary of State during hearings at the House Foreign Affairs Committee. However, Antony Blinken did not specify what inquiries and what type of assistance was being referred to.
“Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has done serious work leading his country through difficult times. We want to guarantee that everyone, including those who have left Nagorno-Karabakh, receives support,” highlighted Blinken.
The diplomat reminded that the trilateral meeting in Brussels between Armenia, the U.S., and the EU was held in April to understand what additional efforts Washington and Brussels could make to assist Armenia. “We will move forward in a number of directions,” added Blinken.
The Secretary of State expressed hope that Armenia and Azerbaijan would sign a peace agreement. During the hearings, Congressman Jim Costa insisted that Washington must hold Azerbaijan accountable for “the genocide of Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh.” He also emphasized that Baku cannot be trusted, as the Azerbaijani side has repeatedly violated agreements made with Armenia. “The best solution is progress towards a peace treaty. This is in the interests of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the entire region,” responded Blinken.
