Human Rights Defender Comments on Incident Involving Journalist
As a result of constant monitoring of the media and social platforms, information has been received that during protests held in Yerevan on May 13, the professional activities of representatives of mass media were obstructed.
This was stated in a release by the Human Rights Defender (HRD).
“Upon the instruction of Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan, contact has been established with journalist Mery Manukyan from 24News.am to gather information regarding the incident. Clarifications will be sought from the relevant bodies concerning the reported incidents. The issue is under the attention of the Human Rights Defender. The Human Rights Defender emphasizes that the professional protection and effective work of journalists and media outlets hold great public importance. Any targeting of journalists or instances of apparent violence related to their professional activities are unacceptable, and relevant authorities must ensure that every instance that may obstruct a journalist's professional work is appropriately addressed,” the statement reads.
We previously reported that during a civil disobedience action in Yerevan, a journalist had fainted.
