Bagrate Surbazan Responds to Ararat Mirzoyan's Statement

It is still a question of who abandoned the trench and why. This statement was made by the leader of the Tavush diocese, Bagrate Surbazan, during a conversation with journalists in response to Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan's remarks.

Ararat Mirzoyan described those diplomats who joined the "Tavush for the Homeland" movement and formed a framework for demarcation and establishing peace in the region as "deserters" earlier today. He stated, "Deserters are those who abandoned their posts, the trenches assigned to them during the days of military aggression against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia."

Bagrate Surbazan recalled the Security Council meeting at the UN in September 2023, following the depopulation of Artsakh. He noted, "Ararat Mirzoyan said one thing, while the Azerbaijani foreign minister contradicted him, referring to statements made by the Prime Minister of Armenia. I will not say anything else. Let them just remember that. I will not speak of other failures. Such a disgraceful episode has never occurred in the history of Armenia. To be rejected in such a significant venue as the UN is unprecedented," emphasized the leader of the Tavush diocese.

Regarding the framework proposed by the movement, Bagrate Surbazan stated that he cannot present any commentary as it has been prepared by the diplomats, who should also provide explanations.

It is noteworthy that among the diplomats who joined the movement are former Foreign Minister Ara Aivazyan, former Deputy Minister Avet Adontz, and former Chief Secretary of the Foreign Ministry Vahagn Melikyan. They describe the demarcation and delineation processes as illegitimate and unconstitutional.
