VIDEO: "In Reality, They Are Giving More Land to Azerbaijan Than We Have Been Shown": The Situation in Tavush
Residents of Tavush gathered early in the morning at the bridge in Kiran.) One of the locals shared this information with Sputnik Armenia. According to reports, people are expected to come to this section of the bridge today for mine clearance and other works nearby.
The villagers continue to block the Kiran-Ajarkut-Voskepar road as well. People remained there throughout the night. It is noteworthy that according to the published maps, the Kiran bridge is also set to be handed over to Azerbaijan, although it is included in the village's cadastre.
It should be recalled that the commissions on the delimitation of borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed on April 19 to start the delimitation from the Tavush region. The description of these border segments will be composed, considering the clarification of the coordinates obtained from geodetic measurements in the area, which is expected to be completed by May 15, 2024.
The office of the Prime Minister of Armenia announced that as a result of all this, Azerbaijan would receive 2.5 villages, while the Republic of Armenia would achieve a reduction in security risks. A change will be made to several hundred meters of the road in the Kiran village area, while Voskepar will not have any road issues.
After delimitation, the armed forces in the sections of four villages will withdraw and hand over their positions to border troops. Residents of the border villages in Tavush have been holding protests on the interstate road from Armenia to Georgia since April 19. They oppose the delimitation option agreed upon by Yerevan and Baku.
On April 23, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan posted a photo on his Facebook page, indicating that the first border post had been installed in the Tavush-Kaghaz area of the Armenia-Azerbaijan state border. Students from the Baghanis school are also staging a strike in support of the homeland, as reported by the "Tavush for the Homeland" initiative.
