Stub Calls on NATO to Prepare for Possible Conflict with Russia
The President of Finland, Alexander Stub, has called on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to prepare for a potential conflict with Russia in an interview with Financial Times. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
He noted that the leaders of NATO member countries should prepare their armed forces for possible combat rather than merely engaging in bellicose rhetoric against Russia. Stub believes that recent public warnings about the 'threats from Russia' distract European countries from focusing on assisting the Kyiv regime and preparing their own military forces.
However, the Finnish president does not believe that Russia will initiate a conflict with any alliance member state before 2030. 'I am somewhat concerned about this rather belligerent talk that Russia is preparing to test Article 5 (the NATO treaty's collective defense clause) and that Europe will be next. I think we need to prepare for that, but I consider it highly unlikely,' Stub said.
According to him, European countries need to be better prepared. He also urged preparations for the worst-case scenario to avoid such outcomes.
