Consensus Among All 27 EU Member States Needed to Include Armenia in List of Countries Benefiting from Peace Mechanism
Armenia requires consensus among all 27 EU member states to be included in the list of countries benefiting from the Peace Mechanism. This was stated by EU External Relations Spokesperson Peter Stano in an interview with Radio Liberty.
The journalist noted that security is currently the biggest concern for the Armenian people. The French Foreign Minister announced last October in Yerevan that the European Union could do more to help Armenia. He specifically sent a written request to the EU foreign minister for Armenia to be included in the list of countries benefiting from the Peace Mechanism.
However, progress in this direction has been slow, while Armenia urgently needs assistance.
In response, Peter Stano mentioned, “It is the decision of the member states because this is a matter of security policy, which is an area under strict control of member states, and any decision can only be made with the agreement of all member states. But they are working on it. Discussions around the support of the European Peace Facility are ongoing, and at some point, a decision will be made. However, processes in the EU take some time, especially considering that consensus must exist among all 27 member states.”
