NATO is Not About Transforming into a Global Alliance – Stoltenberg
NATO is focused on ensuring security in Europe and North America, and the alliance has no plans to expand by admitting countries from other parts of the world, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference in Brussels. He was asked about the alliance's interactions with countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
“This is not about transforming NATO into a global alliance. NATO remains a North American and European alliance,” he replied. He added that the security of NATO countries is also dependent on developments in Asia. “Security is a global issue, not a regional one,” the alliance's Secretary General emphasized.
