Navalny Awarded Posthumously
The Dresden Peace Prize has been awarded posthumously in 2024 to Alexei Navalny, one of the leaders of the Russian opposition. The award will be presented to his wife, Yulia Navalnaya, on May 12 at the State Theatre of Dresden (Staatsschauspiel Dresden). This was announced by the theatre today, April 4.
The Dresden Peace Prize is awarded annually to individuals who have made significant contributions to peace and international understanding. Previous laureates include former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, Israeli violinist and conductor Daniel Barenboim, American documentary photographer James Nachtwey, and military analyst and whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg.
