Our Promised Land Is This: Nikol Pashinyan
Today our challenge is to ensure that even Azerbaijan recognizes the internationally recognized territory of the Republic of Armenia. This was stated by Nikol Pashinyan during a meeting with his party members in Artashat.
“Today’s political debate is precisely that, as we see many political forces that do not recognize the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia. I am certainly not saying it is the same way as, for example, Azerbaijan does, but if someone thinks that Armenia is much larger, they believe that this is not the territorial integrity of Armenia (he shows the map of Armenia). If another thinks that Armenia is much smaller, they too believe that this is not the territorial integrity of Armenia. It seems that these two viewpoints contradict each other, but both are about the fact that this is not the territorial integrity of Armenia,” he stated.
Pashinyan also addressed the criticism that the views of their political force have changed: “Political leadership, in my understanding, is about adapting society and the state to the environment where there are vital threats for it, adapting in a way where there are vital threats for it.”
Pashinyan noted that such discussions were not possible before because they were not mature enough for it. “Since today the motivation is somewhat connected with Easter, this can be considered a journey to the Promised Land and our Promised Land is this: We are physically here, but we often are not here in our minds; we are often mentally outside this territory. We are truly passing through a desert, and I have the feeling that we have passed most of that desert, and we have done it together,” he said.
