Armenia Could Apply for EU Membership, Says Stano
Peter Stano, a spokesperson for the EU's foreign policy service, stated in an interview with Izvestia that Armenia has the option to apply for membership in the European Union. He asserted, 'Countries have the right to strive for a better future for their people. They are free in their decision on how to secure such a future.' In response to a question regarding whether the doors of the EU are open for Armenia, Stano emphasized that 'the people and government of each European country must decide whether they want to apply for EU membership.'
Stano reminded that once any country applies for EU membership, its application is considered by the member states, which then make decisions based on the EU treaties and established criteria.
It is worth noting that earlier, on March 13, the European Parliament adopted a resolution suggesting the possibility of granting Armenia candidate status for EU membership.
