Video: The translator failed to translate Erdogan's words; he was changed right during the press conference
On March 8, during a simultaneous translation, the translator was unable to adequately convey the words of Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a press conference following a meeting of state leaders in Istanbul.
Instead of a quality translation, Zelensky was forced to listen to repetitions and pauses. The incident occurred when a Turkish journalist asked a question to the Ukrainian leader, and the simultaneous translator began to utter incomprehensible sounds and make inappropriate statements. Zelensky attempted to express his confusion through gestures and facial expressions, and when the journalist requested to repeat the question in English, the request was denied.
As a result, the translator was changed right during the press conference.
Zelensky traveled to Istanbul on Friday to meet with Recep Tayyip Erdogan. After the negotiations, the Turkish leader announced that Ankara is ready to facilitate peace talks between Ukraine and Russia in order to resolve the conflict.
