How Many Deaths Will This End With? It’s Time to Negotiate, Says Pope Francis on the War in Ukraine

Pope Francis has stated in an interview with Swiss RSI television that the losing side in the Ukrainian conflict must find the courage to accept this and agree to negotiate.

“This is a commentary. But I believe that the stronger one is the one who sees the situation, who thinks of the people, who has the courage to raise the white flag and negotiate,” said the Pope in response to a question regarding capitulation, which, as the journalist noted, “is being talked about in Ukraine.”

“Today it is possible to negotiate with the help of international forces. The word ‘negotiation’ is a bold one. When you see that you are failing, when everything is going wrong, you must have the courage to negotiate. You feel ashamed, but how many deaths will this end with? It’s time to negotiate, to look for some country that will act as a mediator,” the Pontiff stated.

“Do not be ashamed to negotiate, as long as the situation does not worsen further,” said Pope Francis. “Courage is not letting the country commit suicide.”
