Secretary of the Security Council on the Withdrawal of Russian Border Guards from Syunik Province
Armenia is discussing various issues and we will continue to address all existing avenues and questions. All matters are on our table. This was stated by the Secretary of the Security Council, Armen Grigoryan, during a conversation with reporters in the National Assembly, addressing whether the issue of Armenia's candidacy for EU membership is on the agenda.
“We are being accused of moving towards the West, of supporting the West at least. The strongest factor strengthening the West is the war in Ukraine. As a result of the Ukrainian conflict, NATO has expanded, with Finland and Sweden joining, and the EU has become unified after the war. The U.S. military industry is developing intensely, also due to that war. NATO is at its strongest. Now we can ask – is it us strengthening the West, or those who decided to instigate that war and as a consequence, the West has become much stronger. We should be looking for pro-Westerners elsewhere, outside of Armenia,” Grigoryan said.
He also noted that the issue of withdrawing Russian border guards from Syunik Province is not under discussion. Referring to the events in Nerkhin Hand, Grigoryan reiterated that Russian border guards did not allow EU observers to enter the territory.
