More than 40 Countries Demand Independent Investigation into Navalny's Death
43 countries have demanded that Russia conduct an independent international investigation regarding the death of political figure Alexei Navalny. This was reported by Agence France-Presse.
The demand was presented on behalf of these nations by Lotte Knudsen, the European Union's permanent representative to the UN. "Navalny's unexpected and shocking death is yet another sign of the increasing systematic repression in Russia," she stated.
Russia must allow an independent and transparent international investigation into the circumstances of his sudden death. Knudsen also called on Russia to release political prisoners and to create a safe environment for political opposition.
Countries that signed this statement include EU member states, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Ukraine.
