Ukraine Does Not Rule Out Losing Energy War Against Russia

Ukraine, without the promised assistance from the United States, could lose the "energy war" against Russia, as Russian drones and missiles have been increasingly hitting their targets in recent weeks. This was stated by Maxim Timchenko, the CEO of Ukraine's largest energy company, DTEK, on March 3.

He noted that after two years of fighting, Ukraine cannot afford to be defeated in the energy war. "There is a risk that we could lose simply because what was promised (by the U.S.) has not been fulfilled. ... The feeling that we are becoming even more insecure significantly undermines our confidence," Timchenko said in an interview with the Financial Times.

The company's leader also linked his concerns to the necessity of restoring energy facilities every week after missile strikes. He pointed out that Ukraine's victory now depends not only on the military at the front lines but also on whether the Ukrainian economy can "survive" and how businesses and production are functioning.

Timchenko emphasized that electricity supply is "equally important in summer and winter."
