Our Ally is Not Helping Us: We Are Trying to Buy Weapons from All Possible Places, Says Simonian
In a press briefing with journalists today in the National Assembly, Speaker Alen Simonian stated that it has become obvious through various incidents that our ally is not helping us.
“They don’t even say that they are not helping; at least they could say, ‘we won’t help.’ They say, ‘well, let’s see, let’s think and understand.’ But our country, our people are not limitless, and we don’t have that many resources to wait at the expense of our children, our boys, and our country’s borders for our ally, which is allied through the CSTO and direct contracts, to help us,” he said. “Then they say, ‘you didn’t do this, so we won’t help.’ But where are their interests, their allied obligations? Allied obligations cannot be discarded without any commentary,” he noted.
“It is clear for us that this security system is not functioning. What more needs to happen for us to realize that this security system is failing with various justifications? We witnessed what happened in Artsakh, we saw what happened in Khtsaberd, in Hin Tagher, in Sevan, in Jermuk, with the captives. We saw what happened at the Lachin corridor. How many examples should I bring?” Simonian emphasized.
According to him, the alternative for security is to use all possible means and to try to revive the CSTO in some way. “It is evident that this system does not work. We are now trying to buy weapons from all possible places to defend our state. If this hinders some security system, that’s their problem; it is clear that they are not fulfilling their obligations. We will move in the direction that provides us with maximum security. We believe that our security is being a democratic country, closely working with a democratic system,” said the Speaker of the Assembly.
