VIDEO: Fire at Astana Airport Causes Flight Delays
The departure of 18 flights from Astana International Airport has been delayed due to an electrical fire and the evacuation of passengers, according to the airport's press service, as reported by TASS.
"On February 27, at 07:50 (05:50 Yerevan time), a report of a fire came from the communication hub of Astana International Airport. The fire was fully localized by 08:24 (06:24 Yerevan time). All passengers were evacuated to a safe area due to heavy smoke during the firefighting operations," the statement read.
It was noted that the airport continues to receive arriving flights. However, 18 departures have been delayed. "The administration of Astana International Airport is providing passengers with water and drinks. Soon, the administration will provide light snacks to passengers," the press service clarified.
According to the data from Kazakhstan's Ministry of Emergency Situations, the fire that broke out at the airport has now been extinguished.
