Turkish MP Links Opening of Border with Armenia to Demands for Constitutional Change in Armenia
Turkey will not open its border with Armenia until all issues between Azerbaijan and Armenia are resolved. This was stated by Shamil Ayrim, a member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and head of the Turkish-Azerbaijani interparliamentary friendship group, during a speech in Ankara at an event organized by the Turkey-Azerbaijan Friendship Fund and the Turkish Grand National Assembly, dedicated to the 32nd anniversary of the Khojaly events.
The Turkish MP said, "Armenia must change its Constitution, which reflects its territorial claims against Azerbaijan and Turkey; otherwise, peace with such a state will be impossible." He noted that Azerbaijan and Turkey are closely monitoring this process.
It is worth noting that it is Azerbaijan's Constitution that contains territorial claims against Armenia, referring to the entirety of modern Armenia. However, Azerbaijan has yet to plan any changes or recognize Armenia's territorial integrity.
