Education Standards Reform Could Position Armenia's Educational Outcomes as Successful Globally: Ministry of Education
Our children spend around 12 years in school. This is time that we take away from our children. This was noted by Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasian on her Facebook page.
“Today, the external assessment results of the pilot testing of the state standard of general education in the Tavush region were presented. I will briefly highlight the main result. Our children spend around 12 years in school. This is time that we take away from our children. According to 2015 studies, the educational result we provided to our children was equivalent to around 8 years. This discrepancy shows every day that our children spend in school during which they learn nothing,” she said.
The reform of the educational standards has resulted in an increase in educational outcomes or quality of education by at least six months. This is a significant achievement when compared to the results of similar reforms in other countries and, according to our partners, could be presented globally as a successful case study.
This achievement comes at a time when the entire world is discussing the losses each country has faced in its school systems due to the pandemic. Other countries are counting their educational losses, while we are counting our educational progress.
We discuss this achievement in a context where the changes and implementation of the standards have been accompanied by acute public skepticism and criticism. This achievement is merely the beginning of a long process, with the continuous implementation of the standards in all schools ahead of us. Let us unite our efforts, dear teachers, school directors, and learners, and do even more,” Andreasian concluded.
