Mohammed Mahdi Mohammed Mukarmean Sued the President of Armenia and Won the Case: 'Hraparak'
The Administrative Court has granted the request of Mohammed Mahdi Mohammed Mukarmean against the President of Armenia, obliging the President to grant Armenian citizenship to Mohammed Mukarmean. This was reported by the newspaper 'Hraparak'.
According to procedural background information, Mohammed Mahdi Mohammed Mukarmean married Armenian citizen L. Tonoyan and obtained a temporary residency status. In 2021, the plaintiff applied for Armenian citizenship; however, Vahagn Khachatryan received a draft decision to deny the application from Nikol Pashinyan and signed it, explaining in court that 'if the Prime Minister rejected it, then the President could not have signed it.' As a result, the court found the arguments presented by the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the Migration and Citizenship Service, the Interagency Commission on Citizenship Issues, and the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia unsubstantiated and granted Mohammed Mahdi Mohammed Mukarmean's petition.
However, the reasons behind Pashinyan's decision that the individual should not obtain Armenian citizenship remain unclear, the paper reports.
