In Armenia, I Do Not Decide Who Gets Arrested and Who Doesn’t: Pashinyan on the Likelihood of Putin's Arrest in Armenia
I do not think Vladimir Vladimirich needs my advice. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in response to The Telegraph's question about whether it is possible for him to simply call Russian President Vladimir Putin and tell him not to come, as he cannot guarantee that the latter will not be arrested.
Speaking about the probability of Putin being arrested in Armenia, he noted that he does not make decisions in Armenia regarding who gets arrested and who does not:
“Since 2018, extensive democratic reforms have begun in Armenia, and I do not make decisions about who gets arrested and who does not. There is a rule of law established in Armenia, there are legal institutions, and in all cases, the decisions are made by the legal institutions of Armenia. That is why we have the Prosecutor's Office, we have courts, we have the Investigative Committee, and so forth. It is very important that, as a member of the Eastern Partnership, the Republic of Armenia stands out in the logic of institutional reforms, particularly with an independent judicial system. The Republic of Armenia is a legal state; the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia has his powers. Under no circumstances and in no case does the resolution of this issue fall within the scope of those powers: whether this person should be arrested or not. Everything is resolved through legal procedures,”
he said.
