Florida Governor to Send 1,000 National Guardsmen to Texas to Assist at the Mexican Border
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced the decision to send National Guard troops to Texas to help stop the flow of illegal migrants at the border with Mexico, RTVI reports. The deployment will involve up to 1,000 servicemen.
“If Texas is putting up barriers and barbed wire to stop illegal immigrants, I want to help. I don’t want to be part of a federal government that is trying to allow more illegals in. This is madness,” DeSantis stated during a press conference.
The governor noted that Florida will deploy a National Guard unit outside of the state for the first time. “Biden has the authority to close this border today. If he wanted to, but he doesn’t have the will to do it. He lacks the ability to see the problem and do his job,” DeSantis explained.
The Florida governor also added that if the country has no border, it cannot be considered sovereign.
On January 30, Fox News reported that attorneys general from 26 Republican states have supported Texas in its conflict with President Joe Biden's administration. In a letter sent to Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the attorneys general stated that “millions of people are illegally entering Texas as part of a coordinated attack on the (U.S.) border,” which constitutes an “invasion.”
