US Response Could Be Stronger: CNN
Following the drone attack on a US military base in Jordan, the White House's response may be more powerful than previous retaliatory strikes in Iraq and Syria. CNN reports this citing its own sources.
The network also notes that the US Department of Defense and the White House are attempting to keep their plans secret. It explained that President Joe Biden is under 'increasing pressure' following the attack on the base in Jordan.
Reports indicate that some Republicans have called for direct US action against Iran. Sources mention that the Biden administration is considering options to hit Iranian militants in Syria and Iraq. An 'offensive cyber attack' is also viewed as another option for retaliation.
Meanwhile, the network emphasizes that in recent months, the US has frequently targeted the weapons depots of Iranian groups in Iran and Syria, but 'that has not managed to stop the militants.'
John Kirby, the National Security Council's coordinator for strategic communications, stated in an interview with the publication that the US is not seeking war with Iran: 'We are not looking for a broader conflict in the Middle East. Essentially, every action the president has taken has been aimed at de-escalation and reducing tensions.'
